Singing to Beat Parkinson’s: 29th and 30th January 2018 from10.00 to 4.30 p.m.
Hoffmann Building, Snape Maltings, Snape, Suffolk IP17 1SP
After last year’s second successful training session, Snape is delighted to be hosting another two days of training. Since last year, new Parkinson’s groups have been formed and a national network of SING TO BEAT PARKINSON’S practitioners is in the process of being fully established .
The course offers a unique and specialist opportunity for musicians and emerging artists to gain invaluable experience and a toolkit to run a Singing Group for people with Parkinson’s and their carers.
The course will be led by Grenville Hancox (Honorary Professor in Music, Health and Well Being, University of Kent; Artistic Director, Canterbury Cantata Trust Founder and expert in singing and wellbeing) and Nicola Wydenbach (an experienced Parkinson’s and Singing practitioner and Founder of the Contented Music Club).
This year the course (if there is sufficient demand) will run on two levels.
Stage 1 for new Participants
Participants will gain a greater awareness and understanding of Parkinson’s and singing. As well as gaining practical experience of working in this context, attendees will have the chance to work alongside people with Parkinson’s and their carers each afternoon. There will be practical workshops and demonstrations on how to lead warm-ups and songs and other activities that are tailor made for this client group as well as practical advice about how to set up and run a group once the course is finished.
Stage 2 for returning Participants
Any opportunity for returning participants to network, problem solve, discuss issues that have arisen from leading actual sessions, share best practice and development in a shared environment.
The course is free and runs from 10am-4.30pm with a break for lunch. Tea and coffee will provided but not lunch. There are local sandwich shops that provide lunch or you can bring your own.
